LG USB Deviations
I have been struggling for a while to connect my Karbonn A21 Android phone to the computer using a Standard USB-B Mini cable. The phone just would not get detected no matter how much I tinkered with the settings on the computer and the phone.
Mahender Lala, a tech-geek friend from Mumbai was visiting and he immediately queried – Was I using an USB cable that came along with an LG phone?
Turns out, I was. The cable was from the Charger-Cable set of the LG-VS750 Windows Mobile 6.1 that I had purchased last year.
Based on his advise, I swapped out the cable with another one that came with Charger-Cable set of the Zen Mobile Z77 and Voila! The phone was instantly detected by the computer (running Windows 7).
It appears that USB cables that come with LG phones contain circuitry that prevent them from functioning with other phones.
I think this is horribly not in keeping with the spirit of USB – A global standard for communication between devices. If LG has to make proprietary cables, why not make a proprietary connector to accompany them?
